Bowen Therapy

What is the Bowen Technique?
The Bowen Technique is a gentle and non-invasive bodywork technique that balances the nervous system, releases muscle tension, and improves structural and physiological function.  Bowen relaxes and realigns the body’s soft tissues through light touch and energy flow, to treat a wide variety of complaints including chronic pain, digestive dysfunction, and hormonal imbalances.  In creating a feedback loop from various muscle groups to the nervous system, Bowen engages the body’s own ability to heal and release restriction.

What can I expect during a session?
During a Bowen treatment, the therapist will complete a series of precise moves on specific points of the body, using light pressure.  The patient may be lying or seated, depending on their mobility and the treatment required.  There are frequent pauses during the session, between sets of moves, to allow the nervous system to respond and integrate the information it is receiving from the muscles and connective tissues.  Almost all moves can be done through clothing.  Most patients report a deep sense of relaxation during and after treatment.
